Pre-Pride Party

Updated: May 15, 2020

Bruce, Leanne & Keith wrapped in the rainbow flag.

The committee at Adelaide Pride March accepted The Kindness Kombi to drive in the Adelaide Pride March 2019.

To show our gratitude, On 2nd Nov 2019, The Kindness Kombi joined with Bluey Boronia & hosted a free pre-pride party for the rainbow community & their family & friends.

The aim of the event was to provide a safe space for the rainbow community to meet & prepare for the Adelaide Pride March, a place to listen to good music, make new friends & get glittered up!

The space was accessible (for wheelchair users) and prohibited the consumption of alcohol and drugs.

We spent a lot of time mapping out how our event would work with Bruce from Bluey Boronia.

As you can see in the above photo, after one of our meetings, we were very excited to be a part of such a special day & to bring the community together.

As shown below, this was the night before our party, we set up the event in the closed Topham Mall .

When the day finally came, a slow trickle of people came and then more and more, and before we knew it, the whole area was filled.

We had music playing through a PA & sign making supplies to get everyone involved.

Imelda Oro & Calamity Tash volunteered their time.

Attendees were invited to leave a message of love on The Kindness Kombi itself.

This was done with chalk marker all over the van & it was completely covered by the end of our event.

Our party had glam tables, where we had drag queen Imelda Oro & local artist Calamity Tash (from The Studio Adl) helping glitter faces and apply makeup to those who were attending pride.

There were two jumbo jenga games to encourage people to socialise. We had free goodie bags with chalk so that attendees could write on the pavement during the march.

Gourmet Chocolate Brownies supplied gluten free, vegan brownies free of charge.

We had four buckets filled with cans of soft drink & water coolers for people to help themselves to.

We had a custom colouring in sheet provided by Word Finders Club (@wordfindersclub on instagram) to keep the children entertained.

The event was a huge success, with many requests to have the event yearly.

Once the event was complete, we drove The Kindness Kombi in the Adelaide Pride March.

During the march, around the kombi, we had our crew of people from our pre-pride party. They all held signs saying "Be Kind" and gave out chalk & flowers to spectators.

We had a PA speaker on the roof and played a special pride playlist full of killer tunes!

We thank everyone who attended and we hope that you had an absolutely incredible pride!

To Bluey Boronia, Imelda Oro, Calamity Tash and Gourmet Chocolate Brownies. Thank you for your support, contribution and your genuine care for our rainbow community. We love you!
